Ahmedabad Crime Branch has arrested some people in connection with the July 26 serial bomb blasts, a senior police officer told media in a press conference on Saturday.
Three weeks after the serial blasts in Ahmedabad, the DGP of Ahmedabad PC Pandey spoke to the mediapersons revealing the probe in the Ahmedabad blasts.
He revealed that total of 10 accused were arrested and were being interrogated by the police officials.
The ten people arrested in the Ahmedabad blast case are Abu Bashir, Yunus Mansuri, Samsuddin Sheikh, RS Kadri, Yasuddin Sheikh, Usman Agarbatiwala, Imran, Iqbal Sheikh, Sajid Mansuri and Zahid Sheikh.
Abu Bashir is reportedly, the mastermind of all the Ahmedabad blasts, Pandey said.
“We are confident that after interrogating him, we will get more info related to the blasts,” said Pandey.
The Gujarat police have got transit remand of Abu Bashir, who was arrested from near Azamgarh by a joint team of UP and Gujarat police.
Arrests have been made under charges of waging war against the state and also for murder,” he told the media.
“All accused have been arrested under Sec 302, murder charges. Thus it is an unbailable offence,” he said.
Explaining how the blasts may have taken place, he said, “There were two different types of bombs used in Ahmedabad and Surat blasts. The integrated chips were used in Surat, however, due to some technical glitch it didn’t go off.”
The planning for these blasts was undergoing since 2005. Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) broke up into two factions of moderate and hardliners. In 2006 hardliners of SIMI met in Wagamon near Ernakulam, where training was imparted to the SIMI activists.
He also revealed that apart from Bashir, someone from Mumbai was also involved in the planning and implementation of the blast.
He said that most of the material for the blasts was bought from Madhya Pradesh. “The people involved in the blasts were also involved in Surat conspiracy,” he said.
”There are indications that they were also the same people who were involved in Jaipur and Hyderabad blasts also,” said Joint Commissioner, Crime, Ahmedabad, Ashish Bhatia.
